If I had a say in 'Snow White & the Seven Dwarves'
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, a childhood story of mine, but I have always wondered what if I had a say in the making of the story, or the ending?
Growing up in the 2000s, where being cautious was introduced to me in my early years, after the last page or the last second of this story was absorbed into my brain, the only thought I had was, 'Why was the prince a creep?'. Where at a young age, I was taught to be weary of strangers, let alone be kissed by one or to kiss one, my brain always puzzled on why everyone was satisfied with the ending of a strange prince kissing an unconsious girl in the middle of the woods. So, let's change this unsettling ending.
I have always put the blame on the dwarves for making a glass coffin, where the body of the 'fairest maiden in all of the land' could be seen. Thus, first of all, rather than making a showcase for strangers to gaze upon, let her cursed body rest in the cottage she has cleaned and cooked and basically made as her home. That is before burying her body, just like every other person would do when coming upon a lifeless body. And note that, the dwarves had no idea how to cure her, and thus the best thing to do would be to consider her dead and not to disrespect her in her afterlife.
Next, if she were to be awoken from her curse, it would be more significant if the tears of the dwarves were to wake her up as a sign of love from a friendship made between them all. Opposite from the original story where a stranger's lust for an unmoving body moved him to kiss her cold lips. And that would bring the wrong lessons to be learned by a child who came across the story. Continuing, snow white would then be with her seven little friends and not leave them to be with a complete random person, who she doesn't know where he is from, who he is and what he does for a living.
And from this, I believe that this kind of ending, would bring a better lesson for children where it prioritise friendship, and not to kiss random people on the street. This would be a more 'safer' snow white where she does not follow a stranger home, and teaches kids how to actually respect the dead.
This is how I would change the ending to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but now, let us answer a question that would be rather intriguing to think about.
If Snow White lives in modern day, do you think it is fine to live with strangers and even more to marry a total stranger?
The modern day is so dangerous, where you could be kidnapped the moment you step outside your house. Not only that, a lot of strangers do dangerous things that we might not know that we pass by everyday in the streets. However, it does depend on where you were to live. I can't be a hypocrite and say it is dangerous to live with strangers, as I am now living with strangers at my university dormitory. That being said, these strangers I live with are ones whose background has been checked and has been filtered, where no dangerous people with criminal records can enter, thus places like a university would be okay to live with strangers. On the contrary, if it were to follow like snow white's situation, where she goes into the woods and finds a random house, it would be dangerous. This would be a horror story rather than a romance story. Where nowadays, only drug addicts, murderers and suspicious people who wants to run away from the public eye would be in the woods. So, no, it would not be fine.
Moving forward, marrying a total stranger would not be fine. A marriage partner is someone you will spend your whole life and to trust with your whole heart. And to trust someone is to know someone. How are you suppose to marry someone you know nothing about? That person could be a dangerous person such as P.Diddy who did sexual assaults to many people. It's like a gamble if you were to marry a stranger. It could be a decent person with a good life, or it could be a possible drug addict from the woods. Rather than pushing snow white's luck, better to play it safe and not marry a possible murderer just because she chose to marry a stranger.
As a conclusion, after spilling my thoughts and opinions, I believe we should be prioritising safety rather than prioritising romance. Because our life is more important than the thought of the chance of romance that is not even certain to be ours.
That is all from me, Lispiy.
